Marijuana smell is one of its principal characteristics and one the main problems for its growers. Growers, in general, use systems to prevent agains smell, to defend against unwanted visitors and also to keep their home without intense odours than can become annoying.

Marijuana growth and smell
Marijuana is a plant with a deep odour. Some strains ould be detected even during growing phase (when bud are still not formed), being highly recommended to use elements to fight against smell comming out from our gardens. It is important to be specially careful if we don't want our garden to be detected by neighbours or foreign people.
In this post we will detail different methods to combat against odours comming from marijuana gardens indoors and also things for and against each one. From Sant Yerbasi we encourage all growers to be specially careful, not only limiting to choose elements of low or null effectiveness so negative effects could be become busted.
Carbon active filters anti-odours (Odour filters)
Active carbon is a very interesting material to combat against marijuana smell. There are many carbon filters ready to be connected to the air system outake, In this aspect we should notice two factors: Volume of the garden room and extractor diameter.
Carbon filters should always be from the same diameter of the extractor used so there won't be any airflow throttling that could derive in a malfunctioning of the components.
In the market there are many qualities of carbon filters available: Some of them manufactured in heavier materials than others, but the most important thing of this tools is the quantity of actived carbon they are filled with because that's what will difference the air smell "washing".
Ozone generators (Ozonizers for growth)
Ozone is O3 with a high tendency to mix and share its extra Oxygen molecule with the air. Ozone generators base its operation on the tendency of its particules to mix with the odour diluting it increasing oxygen part. Ozone coud be used as air sterilizer (and water) because it's able to prevent against pests and bacteria. It is common to use them in hospitals and places with an air system to purify the air.
Ozone equipments are usually composed by a system of different lamps, with metal meshes in and over them that, using a ballast generate an electricity camp between meshes. This electric camp will produce ozone that deletes any type of odour.
An Ozone generator should be installed at the air system outake after the extractor and 4-5 meters before the exit so the ozone mixes with all the air outgoing. It is very recommendable, even using an ozone equipment, to keep using carbon filters for two reasons:
- The carbon filter will help to catch all the dust that otherwise will arrive to the ozone equipment (dust that will cover the lamps and stopping the ozone generation).
- To assure the outgoing air is completelly clean of marijuana odours. The filter helps to re-clean the air twice.
Odour maskers (Odour camouflagers)
Also there are many products speciallized in mask odour (products that generate a higher intensisty fragance than cannabis does, so oversmell). A nice example of these products are ONA's products (with their different types: ONA Gel, ONA Block and ONA Liquid). They are not the most efficiency tools, but are specially helpful during harvest days, and early days of drying, when there are intensiver odours. They can be used on the outake, or in a room next to the garden. Its use is simple, just changing the way used depending on the type used:
Ona Gel: Ona gel are polymers impregnated in ONA Liquid. It is recommendable to spread them on the outgoing ducting so it mixes with the air that flows through. Could be used as an air freshner combined with ONA Breeze or ONA Cyclone (depending on the size used).
Ona Block: ONA Block could be used as an air freshner in a room next to the garden, or placing it in the outgoing air system (using ONA Control Duct). In cases where it is used as air freshner can be helpful to make some holes on the cover to enlarge its lifetime.
Ona liquid: ONA Liquid is used as a recharge of ONA Gel. Once ONA Gel's crystals have dried, we can re-hydrate using this liquid. Every bottle could be used up to 3 times to recharge polymers saving money compared to buying a new one.
Odour Neutralizers for marijuana growth
Odour neutralizers are one of the newest options to battle against marijuana odours inside a grow-room. It functioning is so simple (so do connection)Its funcitioning is based on a liquid vaporizing (100% natural) on the air. The Neutralizer formula is secret but assures a 100% satisfaction during its lifetime (about 6 weeks). Let it work is simple: It is only needed to place Neutralizer close to the air inflow, so the vapour coming from neutralizer mgets mixed with the air all over the grow-room. As its lifetime is about 6 weeks, it is recommended to use it during the last 5 weeks of flowering plus the first week the weed is drying.
