If they ask us about the chicken and egg situation this time it would be easy: Jack Herer. First it was Jack Herer, the man, the tireless activist, cannabis defender for its social and economic importance. Later on, Ben Dronkers, founder of Sensi Seeds, follower of Herer's theories, baptized the Jack Herer strain in honor of who also was he's friend. Now, after more than 20 years since Jack Herer regular seeds appeared in Sensi's catalogue, the seedbank has decided to produce and sell the feminized version of this cannabis cup winner. What a better moment to learn more about Jack Herer, focussing on the man and the strain.
Jack Herer activist
To Jack's tireless fight to bring light on cannabis and its medical, industrial and social benefits, we owe huge part of the process occurred in occident during the last decades in cannabis legalization movements. Jack herer passed in 2010, was and it's been one of most known cannabis activist ever.
He's book "The emperor wears no clothes" narrates a brilliant historic, social and economic analysis about hemp, prohibition and cannabis value in an hypothetical world, away from corporation conspirancies. The titel of the book takes the moral lesson from a Christian Andersen classic tale: "The Emperor's new suit", where the king and his committee deny an evidence. He's theories start with the actions happened in United States, to remove hemp, to favour cotton growth, and benefits for few business men, and then he passes through the use of cannabis as renewable energy, and claims marijuana plants as one of the most valuable natural sources we have, and points it as the possible rescuer of the planet.
Jack Herer set the base of legalization movement using the common sense together with scientific data, besides directing HEMP (Help End Marihuana Prohibition) until he's last days.
Jack Herer cannabis strain
In addition to the legacy, if something will make Jack Herer to be remembered is the strain that takes he's name. Jack Herer cannabis seeds were developed by Sensi Seeds in Holland in the 90s and, from its early days, this sativa dominant hybrid triumphed in all cannabis cups she was introduced, becoming the most awarded cannabis strain ever. If this wasn't enough, in Holland it was also recognized as a medical cannabis strain, so it can be medically prescribed. Bred from a meticulously selected genetic group, its quality captivated both growers and tokers, and in a short period became even more popular than the activist.
Jack Herer was born from a Haze x Northern Lights #5 x Shiva Skunk crossing, and was bred with the idea of combining a sativa uplifting buzz, together with the resinous buds yield from indica strains. The result was sticky buds with earthy taste (with fresh pine and a citrus undertone) that produce powerful psychoactive effects (THC levels over 20%) that, even though, find the perfect balance between mind and body effects, what turns in a nice feeling of relax that also works good with concentration and physical activity.
Its rich genetic background brings four different Jack Herer variations, each phenotype with its own characteristics and effects. Three of them show a classical sativa influence in its grow pattern, even though produce good yields and large shots. The fourth develops an indica structure, and can finish its flowering period faster than sativas. All of it makes it even more interesting for expert growers.
