Marijuana growtents are one of the best ways, and more discreet, for selfgrowing, so we can smoke what we took care of, knowing all care given as well as pesticides use, or any other product that may vary the taste of buds. Using small, or not as small growtents, give us the oportunity of having a harvest every 3 months, for a lower price than buying them in the black market, as well as enjoying a rewarding liking taking care of plants.
Actually there are many brands, and models of growtents for sale. Our experience has demonstrated that even existing many manufacturers, the quality of the product is not the same, so it's worth it to avoid purchasing white branding ones. Those more aged growers will remember those years where many toxic growtents appeared, with weak structures or even with a fabric that wasn't opaque. In addition the improvents applied by manufacturers, improvements that specially affect to component's quality and internal reflection, that help improving yields. If we don't like risking, the decision is clear: Original Homebox or Secret Jardin.
Perfect size for a growtent
In general, our available space will make the decision in what size of growtent to buy, but if size is not a problem read the recomendations below:
Growtents with squared base: If we have to choose the form of the growtent it is better to choose the ones with squared base, instead of rectangular. Squared base growtents will help improving the light use, as well as placing the plants in equal rows and columns. Another good point of having a squared base growtent is that it will allow using better reflectors (what also helps improving yields).
Higher is better: The available height growing indoors is something very important, that may limit or increase our growing operation. The most common options referring to growtent's height are 4: 1.20m, 1.60m, 1.80m and 2m. The available height is not onlye adding more air volume, it also gives us more margin if plants trend to grow too much. This extra height can make the difference between using a 250w, 400w or even a 600w equipment. We must remember that HPS lights produce a significant heat, so we must keep a security distance between lamps and canopy (a 250w is usually kept 25cm over plants, 400w about 40cm, and a 600w arround 50cm). If we take as a refference a 2m height growtent, once everything is set up, we have to subtract the space used by the reflector (about 20-25 cm) + the distance between light and top of the plants (using a 600w about 50cm), and then we add the height of the pots used (a 7 liter pot has a height of arround 20cm) we will have a maximum real space of about 1m and 1,1m. Said this, our recomendation if the available space allows us to do so, is purchase a growtent of 2 meter height, using a 600w light, or a LED light of similar power (LED lights will produce less heat so they will give an extra available height for the plants.
Ideal place to set up a growtent
Marijuana growtents have two main components: The structure and the opaque fabric. Using this materials means that theses growtents are very susceptible to temperature changes, so it is not recommended to place them outside, where low temperatures, or high, could negatively affect the crop. What is best is to place them in a room with a window used for the outgoing air.
Growtent's yield
The performance obtained from a growtent, as well as all indoor gardens, depends of many factors, being one of the most important the power of the lights used. As a refference it's known that maximum yield growing indoors is 1 gram per watt used (250w=250g, 400w=400g and 600w=600g). We should take this information only as a refference, because final yields will depend on many other factors as care given, fertilized used, genetics used... The reality is that these performances can be reached in the best case, in a perfect growth cycle, by an experienced grower, with heavy yielding strains. At SantYerbasi we usually say to our less experienced customers that on their first indoor growing, if they reach a performance of 0,5-0,7 grams per watt (250w=125-150g, 400w=200-300g or 600w=350-500g) they should be happy.
Recommended number of plants in a growtent
The number of plants used growing indoors is something that can vary, depending on the available space, size of the pots used, and growing methods we would like to follow. In the same space (for example 1m2) there are growers that like to use a Sea of Green method (more plants, and smaller), while others prefer to use SCROG techniques (less plants, and bigger size of each). In both cases the mission is the same: cover all horizontal space available. So what is important is not the number of plants used, as we will need to cover all available space before switching plants to flower.
Once said this, and as a refference in a SOG type garden, we recommend, depending on growtent's size using the following number of plants:
60x60 growtent: 9 plants in 4-5 liter pots.
80x80 growtent: 12 plants in 5 liter pots.
100x100 growtent: 16 plants in 5-7 liter pots.
120x120 growtent: 20 plants in 5-7 liter pots.
