Oftenly growers arrive to our shops with some questions like how to water plants properly. Dose depends on many factors: size, strain, average temperatures, pot's size... Quantities can vary so much from ones to others, so we will explain how to recognize when a plant need to be watered as well as when has too much water.
Soil and coco fiber need variations on substrate's humidity to have a correct evolution of the plants. If the substrate is too dry, plants will suffer dehydratation, if it is too wet they can suffer root damage.
if we want to follow the proper way of watering plants we need to reach the maximum quantity of water the pot can retain, to then let the pot dry as much as possible. Sometimes, specially outdoors, substrate's surface can dry faster than the central part. In those cases is important to wait until central and bottom part is dry (hold the plant to know the weight can be a usefull way of knowing how much water still in the pot.
Remember: It is no good to keep the substrat allways humid or dry.. Variations on substrate's hydratation favors a healthy growth of the root system and aereal part of the plant.
Water young plants and recently germinated ones
On its early steps, plants, need little amount of water to continue its cycle. If we work with small pots we will need to water plants sooner than using bigger pots (more substrate available more water ressources the plants have).
As they are alive, in many different latitudes or climates, is difficult to mantain a mathematician schedule. Our experience tells us that can exist significant differences depending on the strain or growing system. Explained this, we could say that a normal amount of water per young plant each time it's watered should be 250ml. Depending on temperature we should re-water every 2-3 days.
Water plants on growth beginning
Following the same steps, dry-wet-dry-wet, once plants start to show faster growth and reach a good size, will be necessary increase quantity per water. Average plant in a 5.5.l pot should be watered 250ml-500ml every 2-3 days in a 25ºC garden.
Outdoors, where pot's size is bigger than 5.5l, the amount of water can increase to 1l-2l per plant, depending on the structure. Advanced outdoor plants with a considerable height con drink from 5l to 6l each day in places where has many sun pressure.
Watering plants in flowering
When plants start to flower they've reached its higher size. In this phase, plants need a daily watering. We will keep previously mentioned quantities reducing the distance between them if it is needed.
How to at the end
Root's watering is one of the "hot spots" growing marijuana. Plants with not enough days of root cleaning usually taste bad: scratching your neck nad leaving a bad taste.
If we've been fertilizing with organic nutrients, we recomend a minimum of 15 natural days of cleaning. During these 15 days it is important to use a low salted water (perfect is a filtered water). The intention is to don't give anything to plants so they exhaust the nutrients given before.
The amount of water used during these days of "cleaning" is the same being used until that moment of the cycle. We don't need to throw away water or whatever. Just water the plants what they need to keep the substrate humid until next watering.
*In case of using non-organic nutrients we recommend to use 15 to 21 natural days. Chemical fertilizers persist more in substrate than organics.
