One of the most asked questions of our customers is when is the perfect moment to harvest cannabis. Cannabis, the same way it happens with other species, has a varying maturing time depending on the strain and genotype. Along flowering time, plants will show its development through the color of their pistils changing from white to brown. Another symptom of maturity can be appreciated looking close to the resin glands (trichomes) that will also change from a white color to a more interesting amber.
Harvest cannabis
Arrived to the end of the flowering time, it is good to don't hurry, and also to don't enlarge it too much. From SantYerbasi Grow Shop we usually recommend look close to some aspects of the plant:
First, we should notice the flowering time the seedbank tells us (in weeks or days), what tells us how long it will take for that plant once it started to flower.
Second, we should keep using nutrients until we notice about a 60%-70% of plant's pistils turn brown. At that moment we can proceed with the flushing for about 15-20 days. *This 5 days difference we vary depending on the certain stage of maturity.
If we proceed like we explained previously, we will be harvesting the plants in their optimal maturity moment. We would like to highlight that as every single fruit we consume, a cannabis flower harvested in its optimal moment will be tastier, will have a more powerful smell and (specially important with resin extracts lovers) will produce higher returns when extracting resin (no matter if kief or water hash).
On the right you can see a Cherokee Lane flower at a perfect moment to be harvested. you can clearly see the size of the mature flowers and calyxes.
* Some strains, mostly sativa, can take longer to arrive to its maturity optimal moment indoors. For those cases, we can help them conclude within products like Canna Flush from Canna, Ripen from GHE or others, to get a uniform maturity.
