Growing cannabis is something very easy that everyone could do at home, just knowing some basic knowledgements about this plant. Problems are not just a thing of beginner growers, shit happens to all of us, so what it's important is how to react to those problems before worst occurs: loosing your crop.
Today we will numerate growers 10 worst errors usually suffered, so everyone can take note of them and act accordingly in each case:
1.- Use a low quality substrate:
No, not all the soils are the same for marijuana growing. There are some specially bad, like the ones found in those chinese stores, or simply bad, like many you'll find in garden centers, that have not a good composition, nor de-parasite. If you want to start your grow operation with the right foot, buy just high quality substrates thought for cannabis growing.
2.- Place your seeds directly into soil:
Independently from price of each seed, it is important to know how to germinate marijuana seeds to get the best possible germination ratio. Gambling is not a good method to success in growth.
3.-Over watering marijuana plants :
Marijuana plants are alive. It is important to know how to water cannabis plants, and it is not good to over-water them, neither is to under-water them. Watering plants mean to get the substrate as humid as it could be, and then let it dry before re-watering again. This is specially harmful for plants at the begining, because an allways-wet substrate lowes the Oxygen available for roots, and also reduces its expanding possibilities.
4.- Not using any fertilizer:
Even buying a pre-fertilized substrate, plants in containers will consume those nutrients after a while. Once this occurs growers should feed their plants with nutrients to keep them healthy, and get the most from them. It doesn't matter if the fertilizer comes in liquid form or powdery form, what is important is to give plants their needings. A grow fertilizers, and a bloom fertilizers is the minimum we will need, everything else could help, but is not as important.
5.- Overfertilize the plants:
Feeding your plants with high dosages of nutrients won't make them grow faster nor give you bigger buds. The most common thing if you overfertilize your plants is to get blocked plants. In these and other cases, less is more, if you dose your products as brands suggest, and even with less quantity of each product, probably you get better results. The explanation is clear: A defficiency is easily solved adding more product, an overfeeding means a blocked plant, what will take days, or even weeks to be solved.
6.- Take leafs off the plant:
There is a tendency to quit biggest leaves off the plant, believeing that this way light will arrive to buds. Wrong: Leaves are the way plants acquire the energy needed to do all their internal processes. If we take out the leaves, we are reducing plant's life, even more if the ones we trim are the biggest and greenest ones. As growers we should try to keep all leaves as green as possible until flushing time - when leaves will turn to yellow due to a lack of nutrients in the water given, and a reduction of their intern reserves-.
7.- Let pests spread:
If plants don't show any sign of having pests doesn't mean that they won't appear in further on. The best way to protect your crop from pests is to use products against pests - if possible it is better to use biological ones, chemical ones should not be used during flowering time-.
8.- Use a low quality water:
Plants need water, light and substrate to live. If one, or more, of these elements are not good, everything comming next won't be. It is important to assure a good quality water to start from. Hard water (with high quantity of dissolved minerals) are a huge enemy. If the water in our zone is not good enough, the best we can do is using a reverse osmosis system, to get rid of those harmful salts.
9.- Harvest too early:
Marijuana growing cycle takes its time. Do things quickly won't give us anything but disappointments in our crop. If we have taken care of our plants during the whole cycle, it is better to not hurry. Quantity and quality of flowers improves day by day once the optimal harvest day arrives. Better to wait some days more.
10.- Dry fast to smoke earlier:
The same way as the latest point, it is important to take your time for drying once harvest. Flowers dried in a wrong way have bad taste, and unwanted effect. Moral: If we've waited for 3 months to get our crop, better don't ruin it for 10 more days.
